One of the most eye-catching gems at the Pueblo Gem Show in Colorado is a crystal known as the Rainbow Lattice. This rare gem is an feldspar gemstone with the placer gold effect, which is caused by exsoluted hematite crystals, and the rainbow lattice effect, which is caused by oriented exsoluted magnetite crystals. The gemstone is very limited in origin and is currently only produced in a small mine in Australia¨s Northern Territory known as the Buck Hills. The Rainbow plaid gemstone was first discovered in 1985 and recognized as a new gemstone in 1989.
